Our Services Include:
Speech, Language and Academic Testing:
Many children have trouble functioning adequately in their environments, have difficulty being understood, communicating effectively, or learning at their grade level. Our testing addresses not only a child's areas of difficulties, but also identifies those strengths to help them compensate and succeed in their environments.
Speech & Language Therapy:
For those children who are experiencing communication and learning difficulties, we continue to provide quality one-on-one and group therapy. We also consult with teachers and parents with implementation to expedite progress. Co-treating with occupational therapy can be an added benefit to a child's ability to learn effectively in their environment. Our practice specializes in working with children who experience speech and language disorders due to apraxia, auditory processing and pragmatic disorders that may be related to autism. Myofunctional therapy is available for those children who are diagnosed with tongue thrust or reverse swallowing disorders.
Occupational Therapy:
Children who experience developmental delays, handwriting issues, and those with sensory issues, such as eating, visual perceptual, visual motor, auditory processing, tactile defensiveness and vestibular disorders will benefit from Occupational Therapy. Therapy may include the Handwriting Without Tears program for those with young children with handwriting issues. Consultations with teachers and parents are conducted on an on-going basis to help children maximize their progress.
Inservices:
Training is available for teachers, administrators and parents in speech, language and childhood development. Currently with Occupational Therapy added to our practice we are offering an inservice for children and their readiness abilities on developmentally appropriate handwriting and phonological awareness skills. The ABC's of Preschool is an inservice that we are offering that will give teachers a hands on approach to teaching pre-readiness skills for children 3 to 5 years of age. We will cover how children acquire sound awareness to letters and letter formation.
Consultations:
We also offer one time and on-going school consultations with teachers, parents and administrators at local private schools. We observe children with behavioral, fine motor and communication difficulties in the classrooms, and offer suggestions on how to address these issues. Frequently our suggestions can often benefit all the children in the classroom.
Academic Tutoring and Test Preparation:
The foundation of educational success can be linked to organizational skills that deal with homework routines, improving reading techniques, and effective study skills for tests preparation. Academic tutoring can be both specific for an upcoming test and/or general to the ongoing educational issues of reading fluency and comprehension, grammar, creative and essay writing, and organization skills. Support is also available for the TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language and English as a second language.
Hearing, Vision, Speech and Language Screenings:
The state mandates that children who are at least 4 or 5 years of age receive hearing and vision screenings. Those who are in Kindergarten, First, Third, Fifth, Seventh, and Eleventh grades also be screened within 120 days of school enrollment. We provide these and other screenings as well, such as the Gesell Developmental Readiness Screening.
Fast ForWord:
This is an intensive computer based program to help those children who are experiencing difficulty in auditory processing of language. It is a program that is run 5 days a week for 2 hours a day. See scientficlearning.com for more information.
